Harley M8 Valve Train Noise. i bought my 2017 m8 new back last august.not have 11800+ miles with no top end noise. have heard about oil pumps failing, but the valve train on the m8 has been quiet. we noticed that the rear cylinder exhaust valve rocker arms were worn in such a way that a full down pressure had very little. Your top end noise is not normal if. the m8 has non adjustable forked rocker arms so if one valve develops more clearance than the other you get noise. The 48 cams are known to exhibit this noise and with your open a/c cover, that noise is not. part of what you are hearing is the throttle body butterfly chatter; Started getting some cold start valve. it probably just a scored cylinder, or a split valve seal/loose guide nothing major. if you slowly twist the throttle on flat or down hill road you can basically ride through the noise while accelerating. Dealer have conformed that there is no sumping in this motor. installed a new set of woods alpha series lifters in my 126ci m8 that i did a year ago. Ask dealer to start up one from inventory for.
